DOWNTOWN DISNEY @ WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT - ORLANDO, FLORIDA A third entertainment/retail area, Disney's West Side, is set to open adjacent to Pleasure Island, Summer1997. This area, as yet unnamed, will consist of 8 major projects and will double the size of the existing PI/VMP complex. The entire PI/VMP complex has been renamed Downtown Disney to better reflect the scope of the shopping, dining and entertainment available. The projects comprising this expansion include: House of Blues- features a 2000 person capacity restaurant/music venue. It will also house a television production facility, a multimedia development site as well as a radio broadcasting center. The music venue will host live bands every night, featuring blues, rhythm & blues, jazz and country. The restaurant will feature cajun-style selections such as jambalaya, etouff and bread pudding. House of Blues is a concept concieved by entrepreneur Isaac Tigrett in association with actor Dan Ackroyd. Wolfgang Puck's Cafe- the first Florida restaurant for this world famous chef, featuring "California-style" cuisine in a casual setting. Bongo's Cuban Cafe- a restaurant/nightclub created by singer Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio. This exciting restaurant will bring the atmosphere of Miami's South Beach, along with Cuban/Latin sounds and tastes. AMC Theater Expansion- The most successful multi-screen theater in Florida will more than double in size as the AMC Pleasure Island 10 becomes the Pleasure Island AMC 24. When completed in summer 1997, the theater complex will be the largest in Florida. Virgin Records Megastore- The planned opening for this state-of-the-art music, video and book store is Fall '96. Designed as a circular, three-level shop, it will feature 300 CD listening stations and an elevated exterior stage for live performances. Appearances by various artists are planned. Cirque du Soleil- Featuring a cast of more than 70 international performers, the magic of this "modern" circus comes to Walt Disney World! A 70,000 sq. ft., 1650 seat theater will house this entertainment spectacular. Known for it's high energy artistic performances, Cirque du Soleil combines an unusual mix of acrobatics and modern dance with outrageous costumes, magical lighting and original music. Planned opening: Fall 1998.
